GigaPanBot motorized pan and tilt head

GigaPanBot Controller & Motorized Panorama Head

The GigaPanBot is an automatic rotating pan and tilt head designed to rotate and trigger a digital DSLR camera. It can be used with tele lenses up to 600mm (or even higher) to shoot multi-row, high resolution, so called gigapixel panoramas.

The head is constructed similar to any manual operated panoramic tripod head and consists of three major arms (horizontal arm, vertical arm and axial arm) and the two motors. The GigaPanBot head can be laid flat inside a bag or case after moving the axial arm into parking position (parallel to the vertical arm)

The GigaPanBot mounts directly on top of a standard 3/8" bolt via a standard Manfrotto 323 Quick Release adapter . This means that you can sit the GigaPanBot directly on top of the tripod head, rather than having to unscrew the head (which usually requires tools) and attach the head directly to the tripod. The same quick release adapter type is used to mount the camera on the axial arm of the motorized GigaPanBot head.

This head can be used in combination with fish eye lenses to shot fast 360° panoramas or with tele lenses up to 600 mm to shoot multi-row, high resolution gigapixel panoramas. The head can pan 360° and tilt 180°

A two axis level is mounted into the lower horizontal arm, and a second leveler is mounted on top of the axial arm. These are crucial for the precise leveling of the head and the camera.
Rulers along the horizontal and axial arms allow you to adjust your camera/lens at the right position.

Compact version

After testing the head with different cameras I found out the arms are still too large, so in the end I could cut another 5 cm and made the device even smaller as seen on this picture.
Total size is now 25x20 cm and fits exactly for the Olympus E-520 camera with any available lens.
All the equipment fits easily into Lowepro Flipside 400AW.

Note that this is a private project and the device is not availabe on the market. I don't sell the device, please do not ask for price or availability
